Living in a Generations of Hope Community
“A collection of housing becomes an extended family neighborhood with a shared purpose: supporting one another through the challenges of growing up, growing old, and growing together.”
- W.K. Kellogg Foundation
Generational of Hope Communities (GHCs) are based on a proven model of intergenerational living where older adults provide indispensable support to vulnerable parents, children, and youth who, in turn, become instrumental in promoting the well-being of the elders as they age. Community members become problem solvers instead of “recipients of service.”
Living in a GHC is not a lifestyle choice, but as a senior at Hope Meadows said, “It is a way of life.” In these neighborhoods everyone—the young, the old, and those in between—use their gifts and talents to make the community interesting, fun, and a place for healing. While each neighborhood will have its own set of traditions, policies, practices, and purpose, all have at their core the transformative power of community living, of caring friendships made between and among the generations.
